Lent
Lent begins today - The three traditional practices to be taken up with renewed vigour during Lent are prayer (justice towards God), fasting (justice towards self), and almsgiving (justice towards neighbour). Today, some people give up a vice of theirs, add something that will bring them closer to God, and often give the time or money spent doing that to charitable purposes or organizations. Lent traditionally was a time to fast, people would fast and particularly not eat meat or dairy (some places still do).
The vice I am going to try and do with out for the 40 days (plus Sunday’s) is Caffeine. Thats right no Coffee, Coke, Diet Coke, Red Bull, V, Red Eye, Bundy & Coke, Scotch & Coke, Chocolate, No-Doze and especially no Chocolate coated Coffee Beans or gurana!!

What i will no doubt need in about a weeks time!!!

Please pray for Mick’s family and friends over the next 40+ days as they cope with a caffeine-deprived Mick. And for me as I have to share and office with him!

For Lent this year, I’m going to pursue silence as much as possible. You may want to look at my blog at http://peoplepowergranny.blogspot.com and vote in my poll about lenten fasts.

I can’t decide who’s braver… you for giving up caffeine (which you are seriously addicted too) or your friends and family who will choose to spend time with a caffeine deprived Mick… My heart goes out to you all, and especially Kim who has no choice but to share an office with you!! I’ll be thinking of you all during this time of transition ; - ) LOL, God bless!!

PS - message for Kim! If it gets too rough slip some caffeine (of whatever variety) into his food or water and see if things improve!!

From my understanding of the practice of Lent one does not brag about their achievements, it is done provately - I think Jesus said something about the privacy of one’s room. Having Mick in a caffiene free state means he will just go to sleep in a corner for the whole of Lent - that would be bliss for us all!!! But please add his family to your prayers.
Seriously thank you Mick for sharing the importance of and reason of Lent with us . Well done.

Thanks for the tip Kat. I’ll remember that trick if it’s needed. And Rev Kev, I’ll check on him to make sure he isn’t curled up under his desk when he should be going home!

It’s times like these that I’m glad that I’ve moved from the family home. Good luck Mick. Guess I won’t be buying you a coffee on Tuesday
