Submersions

The ‘Submersion Day’ at NCYC is a day of action, service, lobbying, public liturgy, protest, political stunts, simulation and culture jamming as a response to our faith in Jesus Christ. The basic idea is to articulate and demonstrate the positive and loving lifestyle Jesus showed us, recognising that it is bigger than what all our various groups, churches, agencies and friends can do independently. This is a chance for each group to do something they think is important and to show it publicly through action. It is a chance for people to enact and state what type of world we are for and against. It will be a day of faith in action, concluding with a public celebration, where all the young people will gather to reflect on their collective submersion experiences.

Possible examples of action are; helping in a community garden, flash mobbing, singing outside a detention centre, cleaning up a creek, fixing buildings or yard at a school, random acts of kindness, protesting an issue, sharing lunch with a different community, helping to make or serve food, visiting the elderly etc.

With this in mind we would love to receive submissions of your ideas for this day. It would be helpful for our orgainising efforts, and yours, if your submissions could be grouped in terms of numbers of participants, type of activity and area of interest.

Checkout our submission sheet as a guide, and feel free to submit more than one idea.

Please contact us if you have any possibilities for submersions at NCYC or email submersions@ncyc.org.au.
