Fundraising For Youth Groups (Post 01)…

I’ve been asked to write up a few fund-raising ideas for a mate on the NCYC09 crew, and, to tell you the truth I’ve got a major beef about fund-raising activities by the church for events like NCYC, Summer Camps, Conferences, Mission Trips,…

So I take it that you’re not a vegetarian?

    ha ha ha rohan…
your humour leaves a little to be desired
although… i guess you are a dad now
and as such is now subject to the dad joke clause

“a major beef” sounds better than me saying that i “have a major carrot” or “i have a major brussel sprout” or even “i have a major butternut pumpkin” or perhaps “i have a major bok choy”

so, anyone else got any more fundraising ideas other than the stuff I’ve already posted over at planettelex?

hey…. not sure if this is where good Fundraising ideas can be left… but i have a couple which our group from the Far North Coast of NSW used to assist us to attend NCYC in Perth.

Trivia Nights - we held 3 and on the nite we did different games as well as the trivia to bring in money - like having a number of prizes in gift bags and then people have to roll gold coins at the bags and the closest coin wins the prize…
another game at the trivia nite was True or false game - pay a gold Coin to enter… heads is true and false is tail… You ask a T/F question and then the people answer with a T/F - the winner wins a prize
An idea also… with the trivia questions is to have a person - who - if a team needs a hint for the question or wants to kno the answer they need to pay a sum of money - $5 and upwards….

Trivia Nights are a lot of fun… and a lot of work… but is a great way to raise money

Another less effort idea is to ask the churches in your presbytery to donate money to the group to help them attend NCYC… it doesnt have to be a big amount…. but is another great way to raise money for the group

    I hope these 2 ideas are useful…..
    Robyn

    Thanks Robyn! -

We’ve done Auction nights also, getting local businesses and congregation members to donate goods/services/holiday houses and auctioning them off - worked REALLY well. (in fact, that’s where I got my DVD recorder! - bargain!) Combine it with a nice dinner + a band and you’re set!

  7. Sali Says:

Thanks Robyn for your ideas, we hold an annual event each year, this July it’s for Camp Quality and our theme is carnivale, and coming up with games that raise money and give out prizes is becoming harder, we hold an auction and also the night includes, dinner and all entertainment, so anyone else with some games that are good fun, let me know. our favourite is get the men to donate a coin if they want to play and have them belly dance for the prize the best dancer wins, it’s very funny.

its an oldie, but a goodie.
    Cadbury chocolates.
No one can resist the gooey caramel of Caramello Koala! (and if it means you can travel to the other side of the country for a week of the good stuff (even better than Caramello) I’m willing to sell those little Australian marsupials!

I found some great fund raising ideas at http://www.redhotfundraisingideas.com too. Thanks for the ideas!

    Hi ya. testing 1,2,1,2,1,2……
1 small idea for smaller congregations with no young people but a passion/ heart for young people is to become part of 50 for 1000 .
This can be done with 10 people and a small bowl. From little things big things grow!
    How I hear you ask?
Well, say 10 people, not always the same 10 either, each week could donate $2.
Then for the next 50 weeks, really close Jan 09 in fact. WOW $1000 dollars.
Just a thought. Our local Congregation is going to give it a go!

More info on 50×1000 can be found here

  12. Shauna Says:

if you do a trivia night, a good idea is to have a auction. ask some locals if they will be willing to give you items for free that you can aution off. not only will you get money from the trivia night but also from the auction.

ABBBQ (Australia’s Biggest BBQ) is another way to raise funds for NCYC09 delegates — your local delegates, or disadvantages delegates who otherwise wouldn’t be able to attend NCYC — as well as being a great way to get together and talk about NCYCs past and future.

Organise a BBQ on or about Sunday 4 May 2008. Register and we will send you
    - an NCYC09 frisbee!
    - posters to promote your NCYC BBQ locally
    - a promotional pack, with a short new DVD to update everyone on key speakers, bands, the program, and what else to expect from NCYC09
    - suggestions about catering for your BBQ
    - prayer requests
    - registration, donation and merchandise order forms

Online registration is still coming, but in the meantime contact us at converge@ncyc.org.au for more details.

So what was the ‘beef’ that Planet telex had?? Our church has a school that is falling apart at the seams. We are in the middle of a new building project. Of course, construction doesn’t always end up at the price it was estimated at. We are going to need a million dollars or so to get a usable (not complete) facility. Do you have suggestion for something like that? We have exhausted the smaller ‘in-house’ options…….. garage sales, car shows, auctions, bake sales, spaghetti feeds, donkey basketball, pizza coupon cards, candles, ABC distributing, etc..

  15. Russell Says:

Oh, if you want to see planet telex’s beef click on his name at the top of that post…, it links back to a post he wrote on his own blog…

    Hi Dave et al,
We are a new small business trying to get started. Designed products are Christian based that would be ideal to use for fundraisers. Recently retired teacher, I’ve seen my share of fundraisers that become boring or add inches to the waists of people you are trying to sell to. In a nutshell, our products are: magnets [GBY or DTB], bumper stickers [GBY or GBY’all], and Mustard Seeds [for Hope, Youth or Stress]. Buy through your non profit organization and sell the products at the suggested retire price or suggest a higher price since it is for a good cause! Give it a try. . . . in my heart I know it will work and help you achieve your goals! What have you got to loose? Check out our website!

    Thanks and GBY,

    Mary
