liyarn ngarn
On Saturday night I heard Archie Roach’s song “Liyarn ngarn”.
From Archie’s webiste http://www.archieroach.com.au/:
“In the song ‘Liyarn Ngarn’, which could become as anthemic as ‘Took the Children Away’, Archie sings poetically:
“We are all born of different skin /
but it doesn’t matter if we can begin /
to celebrate life and all that means /
and we must not be afraid to live our dreams /
come together everyone /
where the moon meets the sun.”
In the Yawuru language Liyarn Ngarn means ‘coming together of the spirit’ - sounds a lot like the meaning behind Converge to me.
At NCYC09 in January we’ll come together at SNHC between the moon and the sun each day, to celebrate what life means and dream together what our communities and our country could be when our faith converges with the world. Come and join us!
